The dying songbird

A shrill call in the whispered dark
A shrouding call from the fattened lark
A cockerel's coo and a chicken's chirp
All and none of that
A sturdy Shadow

A golden fur of a cat

My bird was caged
It sang the songs of a Parrot's Sage
It fed on nuts well fed
Eager to please for a Princely wage

Eager to shield and yet to protect
The Songbird from the feline
The Songbird with intent
The feline with context.
